The Amerta in Hawaii Residency is for somatic educators.
We aim to provide pioneers in the field of Somatics with an opportunity to conduct research, create and share on the big island of Hawaii.
2024 Residency now open
Application deadline: Oct. 1, 2023
Aftersunset invites practitioners with more than 3 years of teaching experience in the field of Somatics to submit applications for the 2024 Hawaii residency program.
The Land
The Big Island of Hawaii is the youngest island among the Hawaiian Island chain. It is also one of the youngest islands in the chronicles of the earth. The active volcanoes on the island continues to erupt and create new land. Therefore, the land mass of big island is still increasing. Because it is such a young and vigorous island, there are a variety of extreme ecological environments, from barren lava deserts to lush tropical rainforests, from ever-spring seasides to high-altitude snow mountains. Drive in any direction for 10 minutes on the big island and you will enter a new microclimate, encountering different weathers. In terms of geology, you can find black sand beaches, caves, lava tubes, cliffs, plains, forests, pond, lake, waterfall and ocean. In terms of its humanities and history, the big island has Pu'uhonua O Honaunau, considered the most sacred place of refuge by Hawaiians, as well as the Volcano National Park and many original Petroglyph sites. These special sites allow those who are present to begin to enter into deep time, and perceive the formation, creation, development and cycles of life.
